Feeling Insecure

There are days where I wonder if I'm really that good at my job. I love interacting with students. It's fun to come up with new methods for getting the material to stick in my kids' heads.

But there is always a long list of things that I haven't done at the end of the day. I will never finish my to do list. And sometimes I accidentally let a few important things slide into that pile. Today I got in trouble at work for neglecting one of my responsibilities.

It's really hard to balance the paper pushing that goes along with teaching. There's a lot of background work that is expected but there's not enough time in the day to get it all done. I'm expected to submit lesson plans, prepare my room and materials before class, keep track of attendance in two places, teach the class, grade the work, document the progress of any child that is failing, submit paperwork on kids who are tardy or misbehaving in class, and then record all of my grades in three different places. And of course there's the juggling act at home every afternoon too.

I know that I don't have time to do everything. I just don't know which parts I can let slide.

Hugs coming your way. People seriously do not understand the stress and work outside of the classroom that goes along with teaching. My mother was floored when she saw all that I had to do behind the scenes.

You are doing a great job with the balancing act that is being a teacher, new mommy and wife. It is not easy and we all know it.

Please feel free to e-mail me any time you need to. It stinks that you got in trouble today - the expectations of being a mind reader at school is very high. I miss teaching the kids, but I do not miss the paperwork, politics and administrative side of the profession. Keep your chin up and keep smiling.
