A Sonnet (updated)

Melancholy day of jumbled mishaps
Beige hair gently perching over scraped knees
Sunset pouring over broken shoe straps
Rough and hardened like the autumn leaves

Lonely girl beside her schoolbooks
Waiting in the dome of porch lights
Forgotten house key on her coat hook
Despite stern warnings- Mother works nights.

Phrases drafted with words like 'intention'
Lie neatly by 'ten celebrity traits.'
Crickets humming amid her detention
A stoic statue she fearlessly waits.

Across the fence I bellow fondly
An invite to our dinner medley.
